Sonia has been a member of the West Side Arts Coalition since 2005.  She was encouraged to curate by Margo Mead, Fine Arts Chair and has curated and named the annual Black Renaissance and Free Expression exhibitions.
She has been an Award Recipient in 2009, and 2010 for grants awarded by Harlem Arts Alliance- Harlem Community Arts Fund and the Empowerment Zone.

Sonia Barnett is a visual artist and educator.  An artist without formal training, Sonia loves to paint and sketch. Her surroundings inspire her and the themes of her work reflect nature, children, the family and jazz musicians. She now presents more with abstract and computer art. Since December, 2002, she has evolved as an artist and has had the opportunity to share her work, in over 80 art exhibitions and several galleries:  Washington Heights, Central Harlem, SoHo, Great Neck, NY, College of Old Westbury, Philadelphia, Georgia, Washington, DC-Symphony Space-Bar Thalia and Barbados in 2012 and 2013.

Ms. Barnett has works at the Abyssinian Development Corporation’s Headquarters, Grace Gospel Chapel and private collectors.  She is indeed grateful and humbled for the many opportunities afforded her.

Testimonial about WSAC

"West Side Arts Coalition is an organization that allows artists to have an opportunity to share their works with the community.  It has been around 34 years, located on the, center island of Broadway and 96th Street.
I was invited to a fine arts exhibition and encouraged to join through a fellow artist, Erika Mapp, back in 2005.  I was very happy to find such a lovely space to showcase my artwork for almost 8 years.
Membership with West Side Arts Coalition gives an emerging or established artist a means to network, showcase and meet other talented artists from all walks of life".
