Artist Statement:
I describe my art as one of improvisation and reinvention. For all of my adult life, I've worked as an actor. The desire and need to express myself visually is a latter day discovery. Always an admirer of the Surrealists-- the juxtaposition of incongruence, unleashing of the unconscious, reality and dream duality -- greatly inspire my work. I work in acrylic paint and incorporate textured exotic paper, from countries all over the world. I have a long held interest in the world's indigenous people, ancient cultures, African, Olmec, Teotihuacan, Maya, European prehistoric art, and images of the goddess. My work is informed by these influences. I have three categories of work: a series of collages: Breaking Tohubohu- Collagology from Berkeley, Nana with Chignon Series-- incarnations of a Teotihuacan goddess and the Genesis paintings.
