Artist Statement:
I had been an oil portrait painter for many years.. Then, working in the heart of the city, I began to be inspired by the symmetry, geometry, color and constant energy of people, dogs, and vehicles in constant motion (or non motion).I began photographing right outside my office and interpreted the scenes in oil or watercolor. I'm also inspired by newspaper photos of world events. My painting, Somali Woman, is a dark, emotional portrayal of women's suffering. I have also recently begun collages. I find irony in the transposition of disparate sizes and shapes as well as the bright colors and geometry.
