ARTIST STATEMENT:
My paining style is developed on the basis of my revolutionary calligraphic style called Unconstrained Freehand Cursive Script. The Script, invented in the early 1990s and profoundly influence by traditional Taoist cosmological teaching of spontaneity, emphasizes that artwork of genuine aesthetic value should be "formless" and free from any preordained result. I believe that, in the realm of artistic creation, "a man cannot possibly step twice into the same river (Heraclitus)." As a painter, it has taken me over two decades and tremendous painstaking efforts to eventually locate my unique style to express my inner forces, though my murals of the Script was considered "a revolution in Chinese calligraphic art" and shown at China's Museum of History and New York. In developing my painting style, my experiences in New York as a poet, a musician, an art connoisseur, and a social satire writer all have become significant and indispensable contributing factors, if not a carefree existence in a modern society like ours. As an unconventional character, I constantly challenge myself so to obtain inspiration and perspectives for art creation.
