Anne Rudder
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I have always drawn and painted from my youngest years. Art has sustained me in bad times and blessed me in good. To me, making art is an extension of the life of the soul, whether it is through realistic or abstract work or in a variety of media. My goal in making art is to connect with the viewer’s inner life. Academics may call that simplistic, without intellectual nuance and cleverness but if art doesn’t evoke a deep response in the viewer – what is its point? At least, that is one of the main questions I ask myself in the act of painting. I love the possibilities watercolor painting provides me. Dramatic brush gestures, bright and pastel colors, brilliant lights and mysterious darks are all found in this painting process. I’ve worked with oils, acrylics and pastels but water color is my first love. Its broad range of applications speaks to me as I hope it does to the viewer.
