Bio:
Peg McCreary is an accomplished abstract painter who has exhibited in the U.S. and abroad. Her works are in numerous private and corporate collections, including Berkshire Capital Corporation, the Pershing Square Company and the Buckingham Hotel, whose collection she recently joined as one of the winners in the "Buckingham Prize for the Expression of Music Through Art."
For the past ten years she has studied composition and color theory at the Art Students League where she recently received the "Best in the Show" award with her "La Valse", a large triptych inspired by the music of Ravel. Peg was also recently "Artist of the Week" in the Manhattan Arts International's Online Art Gallery. She belongs to Midtown West Art Associates, The West Side Arts Coalition, Metropolitan Artists and the National Collage Society. Her works have been reviewed and reproduced in The Jersey Journal, The Jersey City Reporter, Gallery & Studio, ArtSpeak and Manhattan Arts International.
McCreary spent the first half of her life involved in the classical music that would eventually find expression in her abstract paintings. She has played double bass with several orchestras, including the Cleveland Philharmonic, has played the viola da gamba with an early music performing group, and continues to study classical piano privately. She has also been a music critic and a program annotator.
In the early '90's McCreary began focusing her creative energies on abstract painting because she felt the need to move from the interpretive craft of the musician to the more directly creative role of the painter. She has traveled to Scotland and England in the study of landscape abstraction, and to Egypt, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Germany in the research and analysis of art and sculpture. She lives in Jersey City and is a regular participant in the annual Jersey City Artist Tour.
