LINDA
LESSNER
Statement:
Painting
is, for me, a part-time but serious occupation in which I have
been steadily engaged for many years. Until about ten years
ago I worked exclusively in oils, but then became fascinated
with pastels, and currently paint in both media.
My absorbing
interest at this time is landscapes. Although my paintings are
representative and usually based on actual places, my primary
aim is to evoke the mood and emotion that a particular aspect
of nature arouses in me and to convey it to the viewer.
I have studied
painting and drawing at Brooklyn Museum Art School with Raphael
Soyer; with Anna Parathyras; and at the Pastel Society of America.
I have also studied Chinese painting and SIlkscreen at the Riverside
Church Arts and Crafts Program.
Exhibits
in which I have participated include group shows at West Side
Arts Coalition; Cork Gallery; Art on the Drive; Riverside Church;
Arts Interaction Gallery 12; and Eggs Nest Restaurant in High
Falls, New York.
As a social
worker, I have been able to combine my skills in working with
people and my interest in art by teaching painting to disabled,
elderly nursing home residents, and to people with developmental
disabilities.
